Day 3 is spent learning a Raqs Shammadan choreography by renown belly dance artist Andrea Sendek. Shammadan is Arabic for candleabra. This is a traditional Egyptian style dance where the dancer balances the shammadan on their head. It has a lot of hip work and is known for it’s acrobatic floor section in the middle. This is the moment that you get to put everything you learned from Ruthie into practice. We go to the floor and execute splits, backbends, and more while balancing the shammadan! Students will leave with a show stopping choreography that develops grace, strength, and flexibility.
