BURLESQUE ACADEMY LEVEL 1
COURSE OBJECTIVE: To familiarize students with basic burlesque language and movement, basic jazz dance moves such as three-step turns, pivots, box steps, and stage walks. This course serves as an introduction to the movement skills used in jazz dance. It includes the use of dynamics in rhythm, sustained and percussive tension, and dramatic focus unique to jazz and burlesque.
DESCRIPTION: Chorus/Ensemble only dance series that focuses on basic burlesque movement within group dance routines. Each semester is broken down into 3 months, with 3 different choreographies being taught, one classic and two conceptual/modern. Each class will be taught on the same day every week for 12 weeks, minus holidays.
COURSE OUTCOMES: These classes will allow students to have a skill assessment, and those who meet performance criteria will be eligible to perform in CBR Underground or smaller studio shows.
STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES:
1. Evaluate movement skills in terms of space, time, and force, and reproduce accurately through their own body.
2. Analyze a dance performance in terms of choreography, performance, and theatrical elements.
3. Demonstrate clarity of intent while applying kinesthetic principles for all dance elements.
