Explore kung fu’s meditative roots
while mastering its fundamental principles of strength, focus, and
discipline.
In China, legend has it that Da Mo, a monk travelling from India,
introduced yoga to the Shaolin Temple to help the Shaolin monks
keep their bodies in shape for long periods of meditation. In order
to defend the temple, yoga was combined with movements observed in
the animal kingdom to create fighting techniques.
The contemporary practice of kung fu stays true to these original
intents.
Training methods emphasize the development of physical attributes
such as strength, flexibility, coordination and balance, in
conjunction with the knowledge of techniques and the cultivation of
a calm and centered nature. This class is suitable for
beginners.
