What is all the buzz about gut health?
Can your gut really be “leaky”?
Symptoms of digestive distress are often thought to be normal because they are commonly felt by many people. However, symptoms such as bloating, heartburn and constipation are our body’s way of signaling something is not right. Our modern diet and lifestyle are often linked to these digestive issues. Ignoring these signals can lead to unnecessary health consequences.
In this workshop, we will get real about gut health and explore the most vital foundation of wellness– the digestive system. Healthy digestion is the KEY to your wellbeing and health. Everything starts in your gut! As Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioners, we believe it is our calling to educate our community with simple tools that will help support the body in its very own unique optimal health.

Special guest instructors Jamie Simmons and Kim Mortensen are both trained in Functional Nutritional Therapy. See their full bios below:
Kim Mortensen is a Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (FNTP) trained through the Nutritional Therapy Association. Her passion for nutrition and wellness began after her diagnosis with Rheumatoid Arthritis at the age of 26 years old. Through lifestyle and nutritional therapy she experienced complete relief not only from her arthritic symptoms but other digestive disturbances she had dealt with her entire life. From there, her life was forever changed. She enrolled in the Nutritional Therapy Association to get her hands on more nutrition resources to further improve her health and gain more knowledge.
Kim loves to use her tools from her previous job as a teacher to educate other people on the importance of a real foods diet. She knows first hand how overwhelming it can be to do a complete overhaul of one’s diet. Therefore, it is her goal to educate with a realistic approach. Small steps can equal BIG changes!
Jamie Simmons is a Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (FNTP) and licensed Reiki Practitioner. Her love for helping clients look and feel their best started when she became a hairdresser. Outside of the satisfaction that came from seeing their smile when they left her chair, it was the conversations that were had while the client was in the chair that she enjoyed the most. After the birth of her second daughter, Jamie decided she wanted to make more time for her family. Although it was the right decision for her, Jamie missed the connections with her clients and still wanted to do more.
Three years ago, one of Jamie’s closest friends lost her second battle with cancer. As a young woman who had otherwise had a healthy lifestyle, this kicked off Jamie’s desire to truly understand more about how our bodies work, what we’re putting in our bodies, and the true implications to our overall health. From that point on, her passion for wellness took off and she began her journey to become a FNTP.
She has firsthand seen the results that whole foods and lifestyle shifts have brought to her, her husband, and her elementary-aged kids allowing them to feel better, mentally and physically. Jamie now helps clients achieve optimal health by providing them with the knowledge and tools they need. She strives to make goals achievable and practical, meeting clients where they are and supporting them throughout their journey.
