Ashtanga Yoga is an authentic and deep style of yoga that involves synchronizing in internal breath practice with a series of physically therapeutic and intentional poses. It is individualized therapy for our aching bodies and deep rest for our minds. The result is improved flexibility and circulation, a light and strong body and a calmer mind.
Kusum's teachers are trained to teach this physical practice and the mental focus on breathing as a way to simulate the process of learning how to walk through our active lives with more awareness. It is excellent physical activity that will strengthen weak muscles, stretch tight opposing muscles and develop balance in body and mind.
We focus on offering options for all poses so this practice is available to 'real' people with very real bodies. We have a great respect for this practice, its founder Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and the way we have seen it bring ease to so many people's bodies and minds. Ashtanga is a meditative and moving physical therapy practice. We meet all people where they are and show modifications as we go. We will always talk with you about your specific questions or limitations so you can work at your own pace.
If it is difficult for you to get up and down from the ground, you may still take this class but please talk with us so we may offer you options for certain movements. We're happy to help!
