SONGWRITING SUMMER CAMP : BEACON
MUSIC FACTORY
Middle- and High-School Sections for Summer 2020
Six Weeks: June 29-Aug 3
(Interested
Adults: please check out the listing for ‘Songwriting Camp for
Adults’)
Songwriters and Aspiring Songwriters:
What if we told you you are going to write a song a week this summer. What if you were going to write a sequel to David Bowie’s Space Oddity? You might be asked to write one song that changes time signatures in the chorus, introduces a chord that wasn’t in the verse, all in a specific tempo, oh, and it cannot rhyme; in another song you’d have to a include vocal flourish or hum or grunt that isn’t an actual word, and make that a singalong hook(!), and the 8-measure bridge should start on a minor chord. Oh, and the song should be about something that is old or out-of-style, like a rotary phone or a fax machine.
Here’s your perfectly inspiring and fun summer camp, that will keep you creative and engaged—and socially-distanced.
This camp will give you a weekly songwriting project that will keep you inspired, motivated, and creating. And at the end of the camp you will have something to show for it—forever.
Critically-acclaimed songwriter and owner of Beacon Music Factory, Stephen Clair has been teaching super successful songwriting classes like this to adults and kids for years—both in the classroom and online.
This 6-week Summer Songwriting Camp is extremely well-suited to online life as we know it:
- We meet as a group once-a-week for 90 minutes
- We listen to songs and talk about what songs and songwriting mean to each of us
- We discuss one another’s songs in constructive ways
- You receive the Prompt of the Week, a set of guidelines to inspire you for your songwriting project for your weekly songwriting task.
Yes, you will write a new song every week. You will undoubtedly be inspired, get lots of support, and you will amaze even yourself.
We
meet online, so feel free to invite family and friends in
other time zones to join!
