Do you have a stability ball rolling around your home that is almost never used? Or maybe yours is deflated, sitting on a shelf in a closet? This FREE workshop will help you make friends with your ball again, exploring it as a tool for balance, mobility, strength and relaxation.
All levels and abilities are welcomed. We will start with some simple, seated stretches and balance work, then gradually progress into deeper core work and more challenging stability exercises. I’ll include some yoga postures that relate to the ball exercises. You are encouraged to practice safely and comfortably, simply watching any activities that you aren’t ready to try. Watching is practicing! (Mirror neurons, but that is a topic for another day).
What you need:
- A fully inflated stability ball, preferably one that is sized right for you. (When sitting on the ball, your knees should be roughly level with your hips. If yours is too big or too small, I will show you some ways to modify).
- At least 8 X 8-foot space that is free of furniture, and a surface that is not slippery (carpet is good, wood floors are ok, but a bit hard if you slide off the ball!)
- A yoga or exercise mat
- A lighthearted attitude and intent to explore rather than “perform”.
Optional Props:
- A light weight (3-5 pounds is good, less is ok too)
- Yoga block(s)
- Pillow and/or blanket
- Yoga/stretching strap, or a belt, or a dog leash
The class draws from my time working in physical therapy, yoga, fitness, and tai chi. A stability ball is yet another tool to “tune” our nervous systems and provide new challenge.
