Yoga Nidra, also sometimes known as yogic sleep, is a guided
meditation that helps with rest and relaxation. The meditation will
help you consciously relax into the brain space between
wakefulness and sleeping. This is a very healing state, both
physically and mentally. Studies have shown that you can use yoga
nidra to ease insomnia, decrease anxiety, alleviate stress, and
foster feelings of peace, calm, and clarity. If you want more

This class will be available in person at yogaQUEST and
as a zoom option from your home.
What should I
expect? Bring what you need to lay down comfortably for about an
hour. Some blankets will be available for use at the studio, but
please BYO mat, pillows, and blankets. A small pillow under the
neck or head as well as a pillow or blanket roll under your knees
can be very helpful. If the room is a little colder than you
prefer, you might want a blanket on top of you as well. Class will
start with some light stretching and then you will become as
comfortable as you can. Then the teacher will verbally guide you
through relaxation. You will be still as much as you can, but you
are allowed to move if you are uncomfortable. For the duration of
class you will just listen to the meditation.
What if I fall
asleep? Even if it feels like you've fallen asleep, you're likely
to “wake up” or come out of the meditation at the end with everyone
else. You might not remember what was said during the
meditation, but some part of your brain is still aware of the
practice. However, if you do truly fall asleep, that's fine! A goal
of this practice is to relax, and if your body needs sleep that's
ok. If you start snoring, your teacher will gently and
quietly wake you up.
