We are so excited to present this five-week Intro to Strength Training! Join Helen as she breaks down bodybuilding for beginners and imparts over 20 years of weightlifting knowledge in five 90-minute sessions. This series will be taught in true workshop style, with every meeting part lecture, part practical application. No weightlifting experience necessary; all levels welcome! If you're interested in diving a little deeper than our regular classes allow into anatomy and weight training, this is definitely the series for you!
Syllabus for Intro to Strength Building 5-Week Series
Week 1
Lecture/workshop: intro to hypertrophy and anabolism, how muscles work, push/pull, splits for growth vs splits for strength
Workout: shoulders
Week 2
Lecture/workshop: overview of eating for muscle gain vs eating for weight loss, macronutrients and their different roles in nutrition, protein timing, intermittent fasting, keto, meal prep basics
Workout: core/calves
Week 3
Lecture/workshop: rest and recovery, stretching, myofascial release, injuries, scraping, taping
Workout: chest/triceps
Week 4
Lecture/workshop: mindset and weightlifting philosophy vs Crossfit mentality vs holistic wellness, when to push and when to hold back, setting reasonable performance and body goals
Workout: legs
Week 5
Lecture/workshop: advanced lifting techniques, Valsalva maneuver and controversy
Workout: back/biceps, intro to Olympic lifts
