While most yoga classes focus
on movement and strengthening and stretching muscles (yang
activities), Yin Yoga focuses on stretching connective tissue,
joints, and fascia. Yin poses are typically held from 2 – 5 minutes
each. This allows the body to overcome muscle tension, and
surrender into each pose, taking whatever alignment feels
best.
No two bodies are created the same, and yin yoga places emphasis
on the practitioner’s ability to discern sensations within their
body to determine what feels best in each pose.
Yin yoga can be challenging, both mentally and physically, due to
the longer duration of most poses. But once you give it a try,
you’ll realize what’s been missing from your yoga practice –
balance.
Suitable for all levels, this class will also encompass relaxing
restorative poses, providing time to enjoy the sweetness created by
the focus on yin. All classes will end with a 5-10 minute savasana
or final resting pose.
