Jazz is a term that can refer to several dance styles. Jazz dance originated from the African American vernacular dance of the late 1800s to the mid-1900s. Until the middle of the 1950s, jazz dance often referred to tap dance. Later on, popular forms of jazz dance were the Cakewalk, Black Bottom, Charleston, Jitterbug, Boogie Woogie, Swing dancing and Lindy Hop. After the 1950s, jazz dance evolved to Broadway into a style known as modern jazz.

Emphasizing technique and style, this class begins with a thorough warm-up, detailed centre work and "across the floor" progressions including jumps and turns. There is no choreography section to this class, but instead, one new Jazz component will be broken down and taught to further develop skills and technique. Beginner students will learn basic jazz steps and combining footwork with arms whereas more advanced students will be given challenging variations for each combination.

Footwear: Jazz or Ballet shoes recommended, bare feet acceptable.
Attire: Form fitting clothing you can sweat in.

Beginner: 1-2 years of dance experiance recomended.
