Ganesha is the elephant headed god who is revered as the “overcomer of obstacles”. At the beginning of something new, for example, a new job, new life-birth of a baby or new year, in many Eastern traditions, chants are offered to Ganesha. There are several mantras that could be used when chanting to Ganesha. Traditionally 108 mantras are offered, using a mala (108 strand of beads also known as prayer beads) to track the repetitions while staying in the flow of chanting. Mantra is said to hold power of the thousands of years that it has been in existence and utilized. Mantra also moves prana (energy) as it invokes vibrations from the heart through the throat and head moving through these 3 chakras (energy wheels).
