Although
many forms of yoga practice are safe, some are strenuous and may
not be appropriate for everyone. Just as certain psychiatric
medications have shown some efficacy for reducing anxiety and
depression, it is important to understand that other therapies like
yoga have been shown to improve mental health. Yoga is no longer
considered a solely “holistic” approach to improving mental health
and well-being—in recent years, it's gained a scientific following,
and has extensive research behind it to support its benefits.
This
eight-week yoga series will allow you to tune inward in to bodily
sensations and to build a practice that focuses on mindfulness,
stillness and physical and inner balance. Anxiety can leave you
feeling out of control, ungrounded, and overwhelmed with everyday
life. Together in a supportive group setting, we will band together
to strip away the image of an “ideal” self, and really experience
our bodies from the inside out. You may find that there are things
about your body you actually like!
This
group class will offer tools for building greater acceptance of
your own body, healthy ways to deal with inner emotions, present
moment awareness as well as working towards being compassionate to
one’s self, and eventually others. Specific yoga techniques will
give you greater body awareness and responsiveness which in turn
are associated with lower levels of self-objectification and
greater body satisfaction.
Yoga for Anxiety and Depression is an hour exploration of self through very gentle movement and sound. Lisa will lead a deeply grounding class focusing on movement and healing touch. Harmonic sound practitioner, Sergei, will combine his live music with Rachel's yoga to create a unique experience of breath, movement, and sound. The yoga class will end with an extended deep savasana, an hour-long sound meditation, head massage, crystal healing and aromatherapy: being on your mat, you will be saturated with healing sound, allowing you to access ultimate relaxation and a deep sense of peace.

Touching
and breathing salt during yoga can help your body absorb trace
minerals it commonly lacks including magnesium and chromium.
Magnesium helps maintain the balance of other nutrients and is also
important to the functioning of various enzymes, as well as your
heart, kidneys and muscles. Chromium aids in moving glucose from
your bloodstream into your cells to be stored as energy. Since yoga
encourages deep breathing, the deeper you breathe the salt vapours
into your lungs, the more beneficial the healing effects. The
calming effects of both salt therapy and yoga combined with the
health benefits of both allow you to experience a holistic
relaxation therapy.
