In-Studio Beginner Course - Pre-registration
required.
Tap dance originated in the United States in the early 19th century from the fusion of percussive dances from different cultures, particularly from African tribal dances and Scottish, Irish and English clog dancing. The influences from these different dance styles evolved to what we know today as tap dancing. Throughout the history of Tap dance, a lot of racism and segregation has occurred. There’s an ongoing fight for equality and proper representation in this industry.
Level 2 works to internalize the basic skills and concepts introduced in the Absolute Beginner Tap Course. This course strengthens fundamentals through elaborated drills with more advanced rhythms. While the pace is quicker than in Absolute Beginner class, steps will still be broken down and repetition will be used to encourage embodiment of the rudiments. By the end of this course, students will have learnt a piece of contemporary Tap choreography.
