Yin yoga applies healthy stress to joints and connective
tissue, targeting deep tissue release. Connective tissues (tendons,
ligaments, and fascia) respond to long, steady, and moderate loads
of stress by lengthening and growing stronger. Classes involve a
relaxed practice of supported floor postures that are held for
three to five minutes. There are far fewer postures in the Yin
style of yoga as are found in more active styles. Although Yin yoga
is a more passive practice it can be quite challenging due to the
length of time postures are held. Yin postures invite surrender to
the experience while maintaining an awareness of the breath. The
support of blankets, bolsters, and blocks are used to accommodate
each person's individual and unique needs of their physical body.
All levels welcome.
