Yoga Nidra translates to yogic sleep. In this guided relaxation practice, awareness is kept while the body drifts into a biological state of sleep. Lying in Savasana for the duration of the class, a series of body, breath, and awareness techniques are incorporated to facilitate a peaceful restorative practice. The use of Sankalpa, translated as intention, is a key factor in this class, and it provides an opportunity for the participant to penetrate the deeper levels of their being for lasting transformation. This practice is an opportunity to literally slow down, guiding the body from a normal waking beta brainwave state to deep delta and theta brainwave states whereby hormones may be balanced. Yoga Nidra can facilitate the restoration of melatonin levels, increase DHEA levels, induce the release of human growth hormone, and thyroid-stimulating hormones. The best part is, all you have to do is lie down and listen to the instructor's voice. We bring out nearly all the props so that participants can create the most comfortable “rest nest” possible.
