This class is designed to meet you where you are whether an experienced yogi or a beginner, allowing you to practice in nearly any small area. Got a small space? Want to practice in your office? Check this out.
In a continued quest to offer strengthening as well as stretching and to focus on the importance of core and pelvic support and alignment over the years, I have adapted and found great benefit from creative use of a chair. I realized that although the chair can be seen as a stigma, there is a huge population that spends many working hours daily from one. A quick search finds all kinds of studies that show that sitting needs to be countered with movement – you will find tools within this class whether it is to provide a desk break or to ensure movement as you move through physical challenges or limitations. All this is to say, a chair is truly another prop that allows support, awareness and deepening whether used seated, standing, or reclined with your legs propped up for a deep svasana.
Class will be a gentle practice that integrates breathwork, physical awareness, alignment, movement and strengthening followed by a guided relaxation and sound svasana (rest). There will be standing and balance poses offered and breathwork and seated poses can be taken on the floor/mat or Chair. Attendees who benefit from supported seated practice will be offered those options.
Set up: Yoga mat or non-slip surface; a firm seated chair (card table chair, kitchen, etc – better without arms or high back); comfortable clothing you can move in; a soft strap, robe tie, or neck tie; a small soft towel or Tee shirt; a yoga block (sometimes a box of similar size can be folded in on itself – be creative) and most importantly an open mind :) As with any practice, please be sure to consult your healthcare professionals with any concerns and to become aware of any restrictions they might advise.
