Feels Like Zouk is an exploration of musicality and body mechanics through which dancers can understand the feel and flow of Brazilian Zouk.
Our philosophy is that the basic steps of this dance are simple movements and the real challenge of learning Brazilian Zouk comes from learning how to move mindfully and intentionally, learning how to connect and read your partner's movements as clearly as extensions of your own body. Our curriculum balances lead and follow instruction and emphasizes dance principles important to our community including consent, etiquette, comfort, safety, and growth.
Our semi-monthly event is divided into two parts: first, an hour-long workshop to train and practice core principles of Zouk movement, and then a three-hour practica with social dancing in which constructive and consensual feedback is encouraged. We strongly believe that regular practice sessions with open communication are the best way to progress quickly as a dancer and to build strong ties within the community.
Come dance with us and build your Zouk intuition!
