Yin yoga training offers 20 hours of continuing education credits (16 contact hours) with a weekend devoted to yin studies that include the yin history, theory, methodology, sequencing and postures of yin yoga as a specific practice for spiritual, physical and energetic enhancement and as a compliment to a traditional yang practice. Two hours are devoted specifically to anatomy with special emphasis on ligaments and fascia tissue .This course also covers meridians and energy pathways as well as the use of essential oils to stimulate the energetic body. Yin Certification is also a module of the Heartwood 300 hour advanced yoga teacher training.
Along with the meditation, breathing, and relaxation techniques, you will learn how to adapt the classical Yoga asanas to the chair rather than the floor in a therapeutic context. Material is offered for students of a variety of skill levels and circumstances to make yoga accessible.

Yoga for Seniors is a 8 hour training focused on the specific needs and considerations of older populations to help yoga teachers and those working with older populations to design and lead an appropriate senior yoga practice. The course includes anatomy for older populations, yoga for beginners, and material covering the following issues:
- Knee and hip replacements,
- Wrist & bone density issues
- Arthritis
- Osteoporosis
- Parkinson's
- The side effects of medications and specific emotional and physical challenges facing those age 60 and above.
- What to do in emergencies if accidents or medical problems occur in class.
Posture modifications, props, & sequencing yoga for seniors is reviewed, as well as creative class ideas to keep seniors engaged, developing affirming attitudes and connections to the class and providing new ways to teach core yoga philosophy and practices .
Learn the basic theory and methodology of Ayurveda and learn techniques and practices to apply to your yoga and personal health choices to vitalize your life and feel more personally balanced. This seminar covers the basics of Ayurveda in a way that makes the subject understandable and easy to apply to your life. The course is comprised of a combination of lecture, practicum, and creative exercises so the information unfolds in a way that makes it easy for students to embrace the powerful life enhancing beauty of an Ayurvedic yoga lifestyle and share it with others. This course includes body-typing and basic Ayurveda information, but also some cooking, herb awareness and cleansing and health techniques.
The course covers:
- Ayurveda history and foundations as a Vedic system of knowledge that falls into an “Ashtanga” or 8-fold, classification.
- Sankhya Philosophy and the basic theory / 24 principles of existence
- Prakriti/Vikriti (constitution and imbalances)
- Ayurvedic anatomy and physiology which includes
- Gunas (states of mind), Malas (bodily wastes), Dhatus (bodily tissues), Agni, etc. And how all of these elements relate to each other and the three gunas
- The five mahabuhutas:(five elements).
- The Tridoshas and how they affect our energies
- The Twenty Tattvas (Attributes or Qualities) that relate to all mater.
- Subdoshas
- Prakriti (Body Constitution) and how it affects our lives, our choices, and our yoga
- Sattvic Living ( Purity for longevity)
- Ritucharya (Season Routines)
- Ayurvedic Yoga - body type considerations when designing a practice.
