Meet & Greet with Midwives at El Camino Health - IN PERSON AT JCC

This is a bi-monthly meeting with the nurse midwives at El Camino Health. In this meeting we will describe the option and benefits of midwifery care for your pregnancy and postpartum. We will explain how we are integrated into the community, our scope of practice, how we prioritize physiological birth in the safety of the hospital. Patients have the opportunity to meet their potential care provider and ask any questions.

In this workshop, you can expect a light and fun atmosphere with hands-on learning. It is designed for families to learn useful tools and techniques that can help ease labor, promote relaxation, build confidence and promote labor progress.

Topics included:
Review the first stage of labor
Breathing
Relaxation
Partner massage + counter pressure techniques
Various labor positions for different phases of labor
How to use birth ball and peanut ball to help promote progress in labor
Daily movement recommendations to increase range of motion for labor

Please wear comfortable clothing. You can bring something to take notes with if you’d like. You’ll have the opportunity to practice what you learn and to ask questions! This is an excellent workshop for families who want a refresher, want more hands on practice together and anyone who wants to feel comfortable going into labor with a good set of tools in their toolbag.

Childbirth Prep Refresher

How wonderful! You're having another baby! Our Childbirth Prep Refresher is an opportunity to revisit the labor and birth process from an experienced perspective.

What will you learn

Curriculum is shaped by the needs of the students, and is likely to include the following topics:
  • stages of labor and how they might be different this time around
  • comfort measures for labor such as breathing and relaxation
  • revisiting previous birth experience to address things you would like to do the same or differently
  • common labor protocols and medical interventions vs. solutions
There may also be an opportunity to discuss introducing your older child to his or her new sibling.

The Childbirth Prep Series derives tools and techniques from a broad and diverse range of sources covering all the core topics of any comprehensive childbirth preparation class. This series is known to have a great balance between theory and practice allowing you to arrive at the day of your birth knowledgeable and confident, outfitted with a vast variety of labor support tools. Couples tell us they especially appreciate the practical approach that goes beyond what is typically covered in basic books or classes.
