Rediscover the heritage of natural color in this immersive two-day workshop led by master weaver and natural dye artisan Anais Adelina Ruiz from Teotitlán del Valle, Oaxaca, Mexico.
In this 10-hour hands-on intensive, participants will learn traditional Zapotec natural dye techniques while working directly with merino wool and organic pigments derived from plants, minerals, and insects.
You will learn how to:
• Prepare and mordant merino
wool
• Dye wool using indigo, cochineal, pericón, zapote, pomegranate,
and other natural materials
• Understand how natural fibers absorb and transform
color
• Create handmade organic watercolor pigments
• Apply sustainable, slow-making techniques rooted in cultural
tradition
This workshop is beginner-friendly and designed to be supportive and immersive. No prior dyeing experience is required.
Participants will leave with naturally dyed wool samples, handmade watercolor pigments, and a foundational understanding of traditional natural dye processes.
All materials are included.
