This class is one of the options for students graduating from Intro to Aerials. Students in this class will explore more complex skills and continue to grow their aerial repertoire on the Bar apparatus - Trapeze and Hoop. The Beginner curriculum for Hoop and Trapeze share core foundational skills but each apparatus has its own quirks and unique movements. Students will get to explore the similarities between the two apparatus as they continue to build strength and knowledge. Students who are already enrolled in Beginner level Silks, Hammock, Fabric, or Hoop classes may enroll in this class to add Trapeze to their repertoire. The class will switch between apparatus week to week.
Please note, there will be apparatus sharing in this class.
What to Expect:
In the Intro to Pole level of our Pole Dancing curriculum, you will
begin each lesson with a warm up and some fun floor work designed
to make for great dance and transition elements in your pole
routines, but also to build your strength for the pole work. You'll
then spend the rest of each class learning the foundations of
movement on and around the pole, starting from walking around the
pole, and progressing to introductory strength and spin moves on a
static pole. You'll finish off most classes by “dancing it out”
where your instructor will lead you through some freestyle dance or
basic choreography on the pole, followed by a short cooldown and
stretch.
Intermediate Bar builds on students' strength and knowledge and begins to expand their ability to move around Double Tab Hoop, Single Tab Hoop, and Trapeze. Students will learn to roll over their hips and thighs and use unexpected body parts to hold their weight (elbows, ankles, hip joints, the list goes on!). Students’ grip strength will be challenged as they take on more challenging positions, moving their body weight outside of the apparatus. A large emphasis will be on the ability to move fluidly between positions and developing an understanding of how positions are connected. Students will start to work on their first rolls around the bottom bar in this level! All students are unique and progress at their own pace, generally students should expect to spend 4-8 months minimum in the Intermediate Bar level.
Prerequisite: Progression into Intermediate Bar is dependent on demonstration of key skills and knowledge and requires instructor approval. Please contact the studio if you are transferring from another studio.
Please note there will be apparatus sharing in this class.
SCHEDULING NOTE: There are 8 scheduled weekly one-hour group lesson times prior to the show. Additional rehearsals may be scheduled at mutually agreed upon times at the instructor's discretion. A dress rehearsal will be held in the studio during the week before the show. All group lessons and additional rehearsals as well as participation in the show are included in the session fee.
PERFORMANCE COMMITMENT: By registering for this session you are committing to attending all sessions and practices, learning the choreography and performing in the showcase. It is very important for the experience of everyone in the troupe that you commit to attending all sessions. Your troupe mates are counting on you! If you miss more than one of the weekly sessions (due to illness or emergency), you may be asked to practice on your own time to catch up, or to drop out of the troupe, without refund, on a case-by-case basis.
ADDITIONAL INVESTMENT: Troupe participants will be expected to purchase either a pre-made costume or supplies to make your own costume as well as appropriate shoes (details to be given during the session). While every effort will be made to keep costume costs affordable (we love DIY and upcycling), it could still cost upwards $100+. This cost is NOT included in the class fee and should be budgeted for when deciding to register.
PRICING Students may register using 8-Week Curriculum Class purchase options or using their membership curriculum class credits. Please see note about student commitment and additional investment in the Special Instructions section.
