Intro to Contemporary: Technique & Musicality
Jan 7, 2026 - Feb 11, 2026

Discover movement that feels free, expressive, and connected in our Intro to Contemporary Dance Series. This series offers three standalone 6-week courses, each introducing students to essential elements of contemporary technique, artistry, and strength:
* Intro to Contemporary: Floorwork & Flow
* Intro to Contemporary: Technique & Musicality
* Intro to Contemporary: Improv & Expression

Each course approaches learning from a different perspective—whether it’s technical clarity, smooth transitions, or creative expression—giving beginner dancers (ages 18+) a complete introduction to contemporary dance.

These classes are perfect for adults who are new to dance, eager to explore contemporary as a style, or looking to build a foundation before joining weekly open classes. No experience needed. Your contemporary journey starts here.

Take all three in any order to earn a Contemporary Foundations Certificate

Completing the full series prepares you for Beginner Contemporary Weekly Open Classes

Intro to Contemporary: Technique & Musicality

Build a strong technical foundation while discovering how your body responds to music, rhythm, and breath. This course introduces students to essential contemporary technique inspired by modern dance styles such as Horton (shapes and strength), Graham (spirals and contractions), and Limón (breath and fall/recovery).

Dancers will learn fundamental concepts like weight shift, breath phrasing, connected pathways through the spine, and how dynamics shape movement quality. Each week includes conditioning, centre work, across-the-floor progressions, and phrase building.
We’ll apply our developing technique to choreography, working toward a short piece learned throughout the session. Students get to experience how structured contemporary technique transforms into expressive, musical performance.

Goal: To develop coordination, rhythm, contemporary alignment, and breath-driven movement while building confidence in musicality through choreography.

Who this is good for: Beginners (ages 18+) who want a clear technical roadmap for contemporary, or who enjoy learning through structure, rhythm, and choreography. Especially great for dancers transitioning from ballet or jazz, or those who want a technique-focused introduction before exploring floorwork or improvisation.

Intro to Ballet Series for Adults

Our Intro to Ballet Series offers three distinct 6-week courses designed to build a strong foundation in ballet technique. Each course explores the fundamentals — including basic foot and arm positions, posture, alignment, terminology, and coordination — through work at the barre and in the centre.

Theme: Agility, articulation, and dynamic movement

Focus: Petit allegro (small jumps), quick footwork, articulation through the legs and feet, posture, alignment, basic foot positions, pliés, tendus, and barre/centre work

Goal: Build strength, coordination, and rhythm while introducing energetic and dynamic movement. Dancers will learn to move with precision, lightness, and musicality while maintaining clean technique.

Who this course is for:
Perfect for adults who are new to ballet or returning after time away. This course is ideal for anyone who wants to improve posture, coordination, and fluidity of movement while experiencing the grace and artistry of classical ballet in a welcoming, beginner-friendly environment.
