People, Power, & Yoga
Oct 20, 2019 - Oct 20, 2019

Join Charlie Redd, owner of Haven Yoga Studio, and Lauren Roberts, founder of INDY YOGA VOTES, for this workshop series exploring the power our communities have to create change. Whether you’re a longtime voter, purposefully *not* a voter, exploring activism, or brand new to civic engagement, this series is for us to practice presence with each other and get organized TOGETHER ahead of Indy’s local elections this November.

Stay tuned for special guest announcements!

You’re welcome to join us on each date for the whole series or drop-in for individual sessions. We’re intentionally scheduling these workshops right after Haven’s weekly community yoga classes, which run from 2-3pm every Sunday. We’d love for you to join for yoga first!

The yoga classes and these workshops are donation-based. We need you more than we need your money.

Session #1: Civics 101 / What is democracy and how does it work? What kind of power do The People have as the “fourth branch” of government? We’ll dig into these questions and more in our kickoff session!

Session #2: Voting Rights 101 / We’ll explore the history of voting rights, why the system is rigged, and how we can build community power to un-rig it.

Session #3: Elections 101 / We’ll learn when local, state, and national elections happen, how they impact us every day, and who’s running for office this year.

Session #4: Get Registered / We’ll get registered to vote, learn how to make sure our registration is valid, and get trained on how to register our friends and family.

Session #5: Who Represents Me? / We’ll learn about who our elected officials are at the local, state, and national level, what they are responsible for, and community strategies for holding them accountable to our needs and interests.

Session #6: Power to the Polls / We’ll get resourced and ready for Indy’s local elections by going through our sample ballots and organizing our people to vote together.

Session #7: Election Decompression / We’ll decompress and recap after the local elections and co-conspire about what’s next for 2020!

Intentional Movement
Oct 21, 2019 - Oct 21, 2019

Intentional Movement is a blend of various dance and music genres. This class creates an environment that supports embracing the way that the individual body moves, developing flowing physical affirmations for bodies that are looking to find deeper expression within themselves, looking for an opportunity to be uninhibited, or simply want to enjoy dance in a safe and encouraging environment. We will use movement to show love and gratitude to the body for how it cares for and carries you through life. Sometimes sensual, sometimes spunky, always about giving thanks for the abilities we are graced with through movement. All levels of dance welcome.
