Trauma Informed Yoga is a continuing education course open to
RYT-200 or above certified yoga teachers. The course reviews the
science, practice, and special considerations necessary to support
and prepare a yoga teacher to work with individuals affected by
traumatic life events and/or PTSD. This training covers the origins
of trauma and how they affect health and functionality, the basic
theory and principals of trauma sensitive yoga, anatomy of the
nervous system and neuroplasticity, and methods to support the
unique needs of trauma affected individuals and their families. In
addition to the core overview of trauma sensitive yoga, attention
is given to the specific knowledge necessary to compassionately
work with students affected by the military or first responder
service, incarceration, addiction, sexual and physical abuse, and
eating disorders. Designed to raise awareness as well as provide
yoga teachers with tools and practical techniques for providing
qualified yoga classes to special needs groups, this course
includes lecture & discussion with ERYT-500 and C-IAYT yoga
teachers, practice & yoga class parameters and recommendations,
and offers additional discussion with health care individuals and
trauma survivors to fully develop both awareness and sensitivity to
this important subject.
This course is open to anyone interested in expanding their
understanding of yoga as therapy for trauma survivors. Trauma
Sensitive yoga is one of the Heartwood RYT-500 required
courses.
