WHAT IS TAI CHI:
Tai Chi is a gentle, low-impact exercise that originated in China
as a martial art. It involves a series of slow, controlled
movements and postures, along with deep breathing and a meditative
state of mind. Tai Chi is often called “meditation in motion”
because its designed to harmonize the body, mind, and energy
levels. It can help with a variety of health concerns, including
flexibility and strength, balance and coordination, stress and
anxiety, depression, and pain relief.
Tai Chi has evolved from a martial art for combat and self-defense into a sport and form of exercise that's increasingly practiced all over the world. There are five popular styles of Tai Chi, each with its own unique methods, principles, and lineage.
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:
Balanced Arts workshops around Tai Chi are designed to introduce
students to the Yang style of Tai Chi. Using seated, standing, and
moving forms, the workshops leverage partner drills (push hands),
as well as some Tai Chi ball and Chi Gong. Workshop participants
experience introductory basics as well as advanced movements and
exercises in order to gain a full understanding of Tai Chi’s
philosophy so that they can begin to incorporate it into their
everyday wellness practice.
In this Tai Chi workshop, we will explore the 24 Form and the “Push Hands” peer-to-peer partner exercise. If you've taken a few Tai Chi classes and learned the foundations of Tai Chi breathing, walking, and basic movements, you will enjoy this workshop's sneak peek at “what's next” for the Tai Chi practitioner. Hone your technique or learn more advanced movements. This workshop can help anyone that's taken at least one Tai Chi class.
This workshop is excellently suited for those who have been taking the Monday offering looking for a more in depth and advanced session or those who have previously attended Robert's Tai Chi courses.
Cost & Dates
The cost of this ONE DAY workshop on 02/28/2026 is $49 and runs from 1pm - 2:30pm.
The Slow Flow & Silent Tea Ceremony Meditation will start with a slow, deep stretching flow where you will be guided to hold poses and move in and out of poses to check in with their bodies, how you are feeling, and identify where in the body you might be holding tension. We will utilize breath, movement, and mindfulness to release tension, deeply stretch, and unwind. We will also go through a quick chakra flow to open and unblock our chakras.
After our slow flow, we will begin our silent tea meditation. We
will hold space to set our
intentions for the tea meditation. Once everyone has chosen their
tea, the silence will begin as we mindfully steep our tea and savor
every sip. Once we conclude the tea ceremony, we will hold space
for journaling and group reflection. A variety of organic teas and
mugs will be provided during the workshop. Students are invited to
bring a journal with them to set intentions
and journal throughout the workshop.
