An
examination of the pros and cons of Gurus in modern society.
Discussion will include the psychological impact of authority
figures, the “fall” of several major yoga “luminaries” and the
fallout from each, as well as respected teachers whose good
reputations have held true.
We will discuss and role play situations exploring Teacher-Student
boundaries, Teacher-Teacher relationships, the duty of the teacher
to encourage student independence, and various other ethical
considerations. All situations will be linked back to the yamas and
niyamas.
Prerequisite:
Enrollment in 300-Hour Advanced Teacher Training Program, or
permission of Instructor
We will, from start to finish, develop a sample workshop. Beginning with an idea and objective for the workshop, students will then learn to create a plan for a 3-hour workshop, how to establish pricing, and how to market the workshop.
Many of us first studied the Yoga Sūtras of Patañjali during our original teacher training. That first time through can be a bit overwhelming and more than a little confusing. However, one of the most amazing things about the Sūtras is that we learn a bit more in each subsequent study. In this in-depth examination, we will approach the Sūtras through more experienced eyes. This session will include extensive discussion that, hopefully, will allow a more nuanced reading of Patañjali's work, helping to find a more relevant application to the life we live today.
