Walking Meditation

Walking Meditation is one of the simplest and most satisfying practices one can do. In addition to the peace of meditation, we will exercise the body at a moderate pace. We will bring our attention to the gift of placing our feet on the earth, and observe the natural beauty right in the Kashi Atlanta neighborhood. Our regular path will include Frazer Woods, but over the weeks of the class we will explore other oases in the Edgewood/Candler Park neighborhood. In case of mild inclement weather, we will either simply don the appropriate attire (boots, umbrella or poncho) or cancel if weather is too serve for rain gear.

Per CDC guidelines, we will practice social distancing. Masks are required to participate and walks are limited to 8 people.

All fitness levels welcome.

A chance for connection along the spiritual path.

Yoga, in both its deepest and broadest essences, is the actuality of movement from the illusion of separation into the reality of connection and wholeness. It is both journey and destination.

For many of us, we get to live moments of wholeness while on the mat or meditation cushion, but translating that ‘being-ness’ into the process of our day-to-day lives can leave us feeling anything but whole. These monthly group opportunities are a time to connect with others navigating a spiritual path that wends through a greater world. Swami Jaya Devi taught of the importance of owning and embracing all of life - our circumstances, choices and experiences; both our highs and our lows - as our path. The meetings are intended to support us as we work to honor all of our life as our path and use it all as fuel for our spiritual growth.

After a brief opening meditation, each group gathering will begin with an opportunity for each member to share, without ‘cross-talk’, whatever feels particularly present for them in the process of their spiritual growth or the integration of their spiritual work into their life, as a whole. Once everyone has had a chance to share, the remaining time will allow for a more interactive experience. We will close the space with another brief meditation.

The monthly gatherings are facilitated by a long-time resident and monk in our Kashi lineage, who will help hold a safe container for participants’ experiences and may share from teachings they’ve been fortunate to have received along their own path thus far.

Mantra can also be used to create specific results by aligning us with the energies we wish to become and bring into our life. Mantra can be done for self or directed to help others toward healing and peace.

The ancient Hindu teachings say that chanting a mantra with more than one person exponentially empowers the purpose of the mantra and the energies it carries. The experience of chronic pain can be felt in both our physical and our energetic bodies. It causes fatigue, discomfort and affects our capacity to access joy and creativity. By using mindful awareness and the practices of yoga, we can choose how we respond to our pain as well as alleviate tension. Designed for and led by those with chronic pain, this class focuses on providing tools to empower you as you navigate the challenges of chronic pain. The workshop will include gentle poses to create comfort as we move into breath work and meditation designed for pain management. We will include time to journal, process and share. All bodies and experience levels are welcome.
