Yoga 101: A Beginner's Journey

This 5-week introductory course is designed for those new to yoga or those looking to revisit the foundations of this ancient practice. Over the course, you will explore the fundamental principles of yoga, including breathing techniques, alignment, and basic postures. Each class will focus on building strength, flexibility, and mindfulness in a supportive and non-intimidating environment. You will learn how to safely and effectively practice yoga, develop a deeper awareness of your body, and leave each session feeling refreshed and balanced.

Course Outline:

  • Week 1: Introduction to Yoga and Breathwork

    • Overview of yoga and its benefits
    • Learn foundational breathing techniques (pranayama)
    • Introduction to gentle warm-up poses
  • Week 2: Building Strength and Stability

    • Focus on developing core strength
    • Introduction to basic yoga poses such as Mountain, Downward Dog, and Warrior
    • Emphasis on proper alignment to avoid injury
  • Week 3: Flexibility and Balance

    • Deepen your understanding of flexibility and how to safely increase range of motion
    • Introduction to balance poses such as Tree Pose and Chair Pose
    • Guided flow to connect breath with movement
  • Week 4: Restorative Poses and Relaxation

    • Learn restorative postures to release tension and promote relaxation
    • Practice guided meditation and mindfulness techniques
    • Use of props to support poses
  • Week 5: Putting it All Together

    • Combine the techniques learned throughout the course into a gentle flow
    • Focus on creating a balanced practice that integrates strength, flexibility, and relaxation
    • Discussion on continuing your yoga practice beyond the course

Join Bhavaani and Bhairav this Valentine’s Day for a deeply restorative 90-minute sound bath experience centered on self-love, conscious rest, and the yogic principle of Ahimsa—non-violence toward self and others.

This immersive offering weaves together crystal singing bowls, guided Yoga Nidra, and
reflections inspired by the teachings of Yogi Amrit Desai. Together, these practices invite the nervous system to soften, the mind to quiet, and the heart to open to a more compassionate relationship with oneself.

Rather than viewing self-care as something to achieve, this experience gently explores it as a practice of awareness, kindness, and presence. Ahimsa becomes an embodied experience—felt through sound, breath, and stillness—supporting a deeper sense of balance and ease.

All are welcome. No prior experience is needed. Come as you are, settle into rest, and allow this Valentine’s Day to be an offering of care from within.
