Exploring Key Principles of the Yoga Sutras (Peoria or Zoom)

In this series of seven 90-minute workshops, explore the key principles contained in the 196 Yoga Sutras through a combination of lecture, discussion, movement, and meditation. The yoga Sutras are a collection of texts written by the sage, Pantanjali around 400 CE. These Sutras or threads, make up the basis of yoga philosophy. Students will leave with a greater understanding of the Yoga Sutras and, hopefully, a desire to continue to deepen their understanding of yoga concepts outside of group asana practice. Principles in the Sutras include: suffering, outer behavior, personal practices, and inner development.

The Yoga Sutras of Pantajali - Various Translators
Notebook and Pen or Laptop for Notes

March 10, 24, April 7, 21, May 5, 19, & June 2
All Sundays from 4-5:30pm

A live Zoom option will be available and emailed out to all participants. Sessions will not be recorded.


INVESTMENT

$130 for the full series / $30 for individual sessions

WASHINGTON: Beginners Series
May 5, 2024 - May 12, 2024
A welcoming, small group environment for anyone interested in giving yoga a try!

This is a two-session series. Students are recommended to participate in both sessions. No reduced payments for partial attendance or refunds will be offered. This series will only be offered if at least three participants register (any currently registered participants will be notified and refunded if the minimum is not met). The maximum group size is six.

In this series, you will be guided through foundational yoga poses and sequences to prepare you for studio classes or a home practice. You will:

-learn to use yoga props to access the full benefits of postures
-understand safe alignment in foundational poses
-learn how to adapt postures to work for your specific body
-practice breathing techniques that can help the body benefit from more oxygen
-learn what to expect from various types of yoga classes

All mobility and flexibility levels are welcome; yoga works for all body types when approached with curiosity and openness! There will be time for personal questions, attention, and modifications.

The Beginners Series are led by different Soulside instructors on the first two Sundays of each month in the Washington studio. If you've taken a previous Beginners Series, but want more instruction before attending regular classes, you are welcome to take the series again and will experience yoga from a different instructor's perspective.
