As Pilates Teachers we come in contact with bodies in all shapes and sizes and abilities. There are a number of physical “situations” we also tend to come across with some frequency. One of these is scoliosis, or curvature of the spine. There are several different manifestations of spinal curves, which I will address. The Pilates Method is super beneficial for people with scoliosis and often those in pain will have much relief. In this workshop I will focus on utilizing the Pilates Universal Reformer including modifications and adaptations to help people with scoliosis improve their abilities and their lives.

John Winters was originally a musician, an organist, who came to the original Pilates Studio and studied with both the Pilates! He then became a Pilates Teacher and was trained by them to do so. I was fortunate enough to work alongside John and study from him in the latter part of his career. He was a kind, caring, amazing, and humorous teacher! And well into his 80's he was incredibly strong and flexible!! John loved the Wunda Chair and was kind enough to teach me a number of times on it. For John there was a sequence for the exercises, which I understand he learned from Joseph Pilates. And luckily, I wrote this series down! It's challenging but super fun... just like John!! I feel John Winters is highly underappreciated and even unknown by many. This is my homage to him... such a wonderful Pilates Teacher!
