Yin Yoga: A Three-Week Series

Balance your fast-paced world with the principles and philosophy of slowing down in yin yoga. Yin yoga involves holding poses for longer periods of time (often 3 to 5 minutes) with the assistance of props (blocks, bolsters, blankets) in order to gently work into connective tissues of the body, increasing circulation, activating the parasympathetic nervous system, and stimulating the flow of energy (Qi) in the body.

Join Jamie Otto in a three-week series at a slow-moving, meditative pace that can lead to clarity of the mind while the extended holds can result in increased joint mobility and range of motion.

What to expect
+Find a deeper understanding of floor poses and integrate props (bolsters, blocks, blankets).
+Learn the principles and benefits of Yin Yoga, modern meridian theory and the flow of Qi.
+We will explore the 12 major meridian lines building upon each as we move through the series.
+Breath-work and meditation will be incorporated throughout each practice.

What to bring
+Mat - we have 12 mats available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Stepping onto a yoga mat can be intimidating, the weight of thousands of years of tradition and millions of dollars of marketing piled on, with the expectation that you'll get it (whatever it is!) in one class. This three-week series is designed to take away the worries about your first yoga class and make your introduction to yoga an enjoyable experience.

Objectives
  • Learn foundational principles of yoga including asana (postures) and pranayama (breathing exercises)
  • Understand the definition of yoga and some of it's meaning
  • Embrace a beginner's mind and enjoy learning about an ancient spiritual discipline

Nature offers a cyclical reminder of the natural ebb and flow of life cycles. With the pace and distractions of our modern life, it’s easy to forget this truth and lose our awareness of the ups, downs, gains, and losses. Coming back to this fundamental awareness provides perspective and scope to weather the storms of our lives—our seasons—and live with more ease.

Through this three-week series, we will take time to pause and reflect on the close of this winter season, the energy challenges and gifts this transition presents. During each class, we will use movement, meditation, reflection, and discussion as tools to gain a broadened perspective.

Take cues from the season to learn how to embrace your own cycles and find love for yourself in any season.

Elevate Your Energy: A Three-Week Series

While we often think of our yoga practice as a physical practice, the basis of asana is stimulating or raising the kundalini energy. In the practice of kundalini yoga, we use movement, mantra, breath, and sound to specifically stimulate the movement of the subtle body energy. Students can expect an energetic practice which can boost your energy and help you de-stress and some time (5-10 min) spent in meditation whether silent or with a mantra. You may have seen or heard that folks where white and/or cover their head during practice - this is not required (or recommended) here. Come as you are!

What to Expect
+An energetic practice followed by time to notice the effects the movement has on the body.
