This is my first time doing boot camp classes, A lot of work but it will be worth it in the end! The instructor is awesome! Can't wait for next week!
I have been attending core boot camp for over a year now and I love it. I am a runner and it has very much helped me improve my stamina for long distances. Also my I had almost no upper body strength when I started and that has improved by leeps and bounds. Gregg is great at pushing you but if a fun way. I will continue to attend because it is very worth it
Though it's super early in the morning, you can bank on a strong turnout. The class takes place in the Lower Falls Community Center, and it's dark out when you arrive -- if you don't know where you're going, it's best to map it out beforehand. Trust me.
The class itself is full of variety, and it would seem that everyone is familiar with each other and with the routines. Not too helpful for a beginner who doesn't know anyone nor the names of all the routines -- had to watch my neighbors at first to figure out exactly what was going on during warmups.
The instructor did start to lead by example midway through the exercises, which helped a lot. For the outdoor cardio conditioning, routines were set up in "race" format, which was a turnoff for me. I am not competitive, and skimped on completing full sets of anything so as not to fall behind. I want to get in shape, but not if it means having people wait for me to catch up since I'm three reps behind.
Perhaps I'm just slow, and I know that working towards speed is a great way to train... and if you have a larger group with only 60 minutes for everyone, I can understand rushing people with the cardio portion. Perhaps I'll be able to keep up with practice, but I'll never really be able to get behind the "try to beat your neighbor's time" idea. Again, competition is a turn-off for me when it comes to fitness.
I will be back, though, as I love the early hour (gets my day started on the right foot) and the variety of exercises rivals what you'll get from a personal trainer at a fraction of the cost. Challenging drills, all business -- for the most part, it was my kind of work out.
This is a great workout! The instructor is awesome, very helpful and knowledgable. It is great for all fitness levels
