I started taking Pilates (mat and equipment) to strengthen my core after hurting my lower back. I've been doing one class of each a week for four months and I really feel the difference in how strong I feel. The instructors provide very detailed instructions on how to move each part of the body in a step by step process that anyone can follow. The lessons I learn in these classes I take with me to everything I do at home, whether sitting or working out, to ensure I am sitting, stretching, running or working on my abs properly. I firmly believe these classes are keeping me from reinjuring myself, while also helping to tone my muscles the way I want them to.
