I was fortunate, tonight, to be able to attend two different classes... Steel Pan and Latin Percussion.. as they ran back to back.   Both classes were small in size, allowing for individual instruction, and participants were all of similar skill level to my own (novice or near novice.)  I felt welcome and comfortable and am looking forward to next week!  (NOT looking forward to recitals!)

For years I had been searching for a class on belly dance at a location which is convenient to me. I am delighted to  say I've finally found it! Last night was my first class at The Rhody Center. The space is cozy, clean, and inviting. The teacher, Lola and manager Julie are warm and welcoming. And the class itself is exactly what I needed. Shimmying and stretching and dancing around was so much fun. I can't wait to go back next week!

Fun, low-stress atmosphere, positive vibes. Place is easily accessible, has plenty of parking,  seemed clean, although felt a bit small and the waiting area can get over crowded quickly. The beginner belly dance class I tried was great. I really liked the instruction delivery and the overall flow of the class, which made it fun and productive! I'm looking forward to try few other classes here!

Thanks so much for your kind words, Joanna! We are happy to meet you. We are looking forward to our new dance room as well, it's a bit bigger and a better fit for popular dance classes such as belly dance. :)

I brought my Girl Scout troop of 9th graders to a Bollywood dance class at The Rhody Center, and they had an absolute blast! The teacher, Nishtha, was really upbeat and did a great job of explaining the dance moves. The studio was also very clean, and owner Julie was great to work with in booking the workshop just for us. A very enthusiastic two thumbs up! Some of my girls are hoping to try one of the other classes soon!

The Rhody Center comment

Aww, thanks, Jenn! We had a blast with troop 279! Nish was very happy to host the workshop.

I have not had that much fun in a long time! I participated in the baby wearing ballet class and had a blast. It's been over 10 years since I've taken a dance class and have to say was a bit worried especially after being off the dance floor that long and having had a baby 5 month ago not to mention ballet was never my specialty, being 6'1 felt really out of place as a teen. Michelle made me feel so welcome from the moment I walked in the studio.  She was personable friendly and was very understanding of my 5 month old Allison, who didn't enjoy when the music wasn't on, till she fell asleep at least.  I have to say I left the class feeling great both physically and emotionally. I felt that although I had my daughter with my I was able to engage in some me time as well.

Some time ago I searched for Flamenco classes in RI and could not find any. My love for this dance I guess comes from my great grandfather. I've been to Flamenco shows, and went to Spain to see an authentic performance. When I did a recent search on the website and found that right in my 'backyard' there was a Flamenco class, I was beyond excited!

I unfortunately have issues with the pain and movement of my right arm at the moment so I had to limit the use, but the instructor was patient and kind. She definitely knows the art of the dance which she does beautifully. The location and space of The Rhody Center was perfect, comfortable. The amount of students was good, not overcrowded. Also, the price for the lesson was worth every penny.

I look forward to more lessons at the Rhody, including guitar lessons. Julie is a sweet person, very welcoming, and I can tell she maintains the rooms very clean. She also responds to the emails promptly. For someone like me who was looking for diverse non-exhausting fun exercise, The Rhody Center is just the right place, so give it a try!

My husband and I made our first visit to The Rhody Center for World Music and Dance to attend a Sicilian Folk Dance Workshop with Michela Musolino.

When we arrived Center Director, Julie Raimondi made us feel welcomed right away.
The overall studio atmosphere is cozy, comfortable, and very clean.

The workshop presenter was also friendly and welcoming. She clearly had an extensive and deep knowledge of the dances and music from Sicily.  These dances are still thriving in Sicily, and in many Italian-American communities around the country.   And like many folk dances there are regional variations, plus adaptations made for performances.  Most importantly, the folkloric dance style means that everyone can dance, all the steps can be modified to suit your energy level and body’s ability.  Michela also talked about how important improvisation is for folkdances. She encouraged us to get the feeling of the dance steps and then have fun.  Michela gave just the right amount of background to the dances and got us all dancing right away.

We learned steps for the Tarantatella and Ballettu.  Plus, there was time at the end of the class for Michela to teach us one more dance, “The Scottish” which is kind of a Southern Italian adaptation of a polka.  I had a great time at this lively workshop and look forward to trying out some new steps at the next Italian Festa.

The Rhody Center comment

Thanks a bunch, Katherine! We enjoyed the workshop so much. You two looked like you were having so much fun!! Welcome to the Rhody Center and I'm sure we'll see you soon.

This was the first night of firsts- their first night of being open at the new place and my first night of trying a belly dance class.
I walked in and Nicole was very welcoming. There was a dance class going on already (Hawaiin dance I believe). It was nice and cozy in the waiting room as I filled out the paperwork for the class. The class was taught by Lola (I think her name was). She was very nice and really knew her stuff. She took the time to make sure everyone was on the same page with the dance moves and understood how to do each move. I have to say I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to do the class due to back issues but while she wanted us to really emphasize the moves, I couldn’t do much, but that was fine. Overall the class was great and this has been on my bucket list for many years to try. I’m so glad I did and I signed up to do the whole 6 week series. I’m hoping this helps to strength my ire as well as my back, specifically where most of the pain is. Looking forward to going back to the next class!!!

Why, thank you, Donna! It was a pleasure having you as part of a great bunch of students on our first official night in Coventry. :)

I have taken belly dance lessons at a few places with different instructors, the room are small and the instructors expect you to figure out the moves as they teach you a dance. Not here! The room is large with enough mirrors for everyone to see themselves, Lola is awesome! She took the time to watch all of us individually and critique and help us get the moves right! The atmosphere is fun and easy going...no pressure! Will be continuing with my lessons at this wonderful place with my amazing new friends!!!!!
