I was fortunate, tonight, to be able to attend two different classes... Steel Pan and Latin Percussion.. as they ran back to back.   Both classes were small in size, allowing for individual instruction, and participants were all of similar skill level to my own (novice or near novice.)  I felt welcome and comfortable and am looking forward to next week!  (NOT looking forward to recitals!)

How much fun can one have on a hot steamy night in downtown Pawtucket?  Come to the Rhody Center and find out!  I signed up for Salsa Movement as well as Hip Hop and am so glad I did.  The teachers are fun, friendly and so talented. The space is roomy, upbeat - and air conditioned.  The shortened summer classes fit my busy schedule and I have enjoyed them so much, I now literally want to take every dance class they offer.  I am so happy I have found this place and highly recommend it.  It is a great opportunity to get out, meet new people, get some exercise and have fun!

Aww, thanks so much, Leslie! You guys are such a fun bunch. Glad you can join us this summer! And yes, Pawtucket is steamy...I just worked on the cooling of the space some more this weekend. Now I don't want to leave the cool, calming darkness! Just in time...it will be like 90 outside next time we see you!

I signed up for the salsa movement and footwork mini series.  The instructor, Mori, was extremely energetic, friendly, patient, and fun!  The class was loose and not too serious, but I learned a lot!  I would highly recommend this for beginners, whether its just for fun or to really work on your form (in my case, both!).  The studio space itself is a nice size, and my class had 4 people which was great because we got to know each other really well and had plenty of room to spread out.  I cannot wait for more classes!

Thank you so much for your kind words, Meika! Summer is a great time to try a new class. We are so happy you are joining us! Welcome aboard!

I had my first Beginner Ukulele Adult Ensemble class last night, and I am simply glowing! I had so much fun and learned quite a lot in just one class. I love how the class is the perfect combination of laid back and fun while still being rigorous.  I brought my uke to work today at a Senior facility and was already able to play them a couple of songs. Seriously, I can't recommend it enough!

Thanks so much for your kind review, Ceceley! So glad to hear you're already sharing music with others.

My first class for adult beginners on ukelele was last evening with Julie. It's a big class with all levels of experience. She shepherded the newbies and kept everyone else challenged. We laughed and sang as we fumbled over new chords. (Damn you, G!) A terrific start. Great class in a gorgeous, historic building.

Thanks so much, Thea! This made my day. Keep practicing that G, you're getting it!

Last night I attended my first Ukelele group class with Julie, and what a great experience it was!!  Our instructor was warm and welcoming, and patient.  She put all of us novice musicians at ease immediately.  We even learned three cords and two songs!  I can feel those synapses in my brain sparking already!  I am very excited about the upcoming sessions, and would recommend this class to anyone who is interested in learning to play the ukulele.

The Rhody Center comment

Why, thank you very much, Pamela! I'm so happy you gave us a try. Welcome to the Rhody Center and see you next week!

I enjoyed my first private ukulele lesson with Julie last Saturday.  I came to the lesson as an older adult who is a complete beginner.  Julie was patient and clear with her instructions.  She has a positive, encouraging attitude and her love of music was apparent.
The studio was a bright, welcoming space.
I left feeling enthusiastic about practicing the first two songs and I look forward to returning for my next lesson.

The Rhody Center comment

You did great at your first lesson, Andrea! Glad you enjoyed it. See you on Saturday!

I loved my private ukelele lesson with Julie this afternoon. She really made it fun while never breezing by fundamentals or helpful tips/tricks! I have never had a formal ukelele lesson before, and Julie was very knowledgeable, prepared, and encouraging while providing a challenge for where I am at my level of playing the ukelele. I will definitely be back for more lessons with her!
