About the Class

Instructor: Ector Gutierrez This class is perfect for those who have a good understanding of the fundamentals and are eager to continue refining their technique and expanding their tango vocabulary with more challenging and advanced steps/figures. Emphasis will continue to be on the connection, analysis and technique of the movements as tango is an improvisational dance, as well as navigation, terminology, and musicality. Goal is to avoid memorizing sequences and fluidly integrate the various techniques musically on the social dance floor. Typical topics include but not limited to: topics from Beginner I/II, close embrace & seamless transitions between open/close embrace, lapiz/rulo, enrosques, amagues, cadenas, calesitas, clavadas, boleo/gancho/barrida/sacada combinations, “shared axis” technique of volcadas/colgadas, lead/follow embellishments, and introduction to the different rhythms of milonga & vals. Comfortable clothes and shoes that won't slip off your feet with a non-rubber sole (i.e. leather/suede) for ease of pivoting are recommended. Drop-ins welcome. Pre-requisite: successful completion of an Argentine Tango beginner course or instructor permission. No partner necessary! Course may be repeated as topics are continually evolving to develop different variations and combinations which can be easily incorporated into your social dancing.
