Capoeira Mandinga Tucson was started in 1996 to bring world class Capoeira training to Tucson. Our group is led by Anne Pollack (Contra Mestra Luar do Sertão), who has trained Capoeira for over 25 years. Capoeira Mandinga Tucson is part of our international Capoeira Mandinga group that is directed by Mestre Marcelo Pereira (the real Tekken Eddie Gordo!). We focus on challenging our students physically, mentally, and musically in a supportive environment to inspire self-discipline, self-confidence, communication, tolerance, teamwork, dexterity, stability, endurance, and concentration -- important life skills that can be continually improved and built upon. We encourage each student to continually strive to face and conquer new challenges and to explore Capoeira and life as a means for self-expression. Capoeira is a thrilling and expressive Afro-Brazilian art form that was started over 450 years ago in response to the oppression of Africans who were brought to Brazil as slaves. Capoeira combines martial arts, dance, gymnastics, and music including instruments, rhythms, and songs of both capoeira and Brazil. Our students learn excellent martial arts skills and Capoeira music techniques while having fun experiencing the cultures of Capoeira and Brazil. Come train the captivating art of Capoeira with us today!!
