Family Class

The purpose of Lyons BJJ is to
facilitate the training of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, enriching the lives
of kids and adults; and giving them crucial skills to defend
themselves and be confident and successful in
life. 

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a grappling
art that focuses on controlling and submitting an opponent. Similar
to wrestling or Judo, BJJ does teach takedowns, pins, and leverage,
but BJJ tends to be more focused on the “ground game” and on
submissions. Submissions can include joint locks and other limb
manipulations, as well as chokes, and are trained safely by
“tapping out” when caught in a submission. Some drills include
strikes (punches/kicks) so we know what to do with them, but none
of our live training includes strikes. Traditional BJJ has a heavy
focus on self defense, while modern styles tend to focus more on
the growing sport. At Lyons, we believe that true confidence comes
from the ability to truly handle yourself, so self defense won’t
ever be left out. That being said, we recognize that there is a lot
more to being safe and effective in the world than violence, so we
also learn a lot about the sport, work on our agility and general
fitness, as well as develop a myriad of character traits, like
discipline, respect, focus, etc. Everybody I've ever met has had
