Ramona WarrenM.A.T.; M. Ed, UCSCCA Multiple Subject, BCLAD; RYT 200Ramona has been working in bilingual communities on the California Central Coast for over 25years, in classrooms and alternative educational settings, from pre-school to graduate school, andevery level in between. As a Latin American and Latinx Studies and Spanish Literature Major atUCSC she worked in bilingual classrooms in Pajaro Valley Unified and in after-school programs runby Barrios Unidos in Santa Cruz County. She completed the MA program in Teaching, Bilingual,Multiple Subject at UCSC, with student teaching in more bilingual PVUSD classrooms.After more than a decade teaching bilingual 4th, 5th, and 6th grade, and Continuation High School inNorth Monterey County schools, two traumatic pregnancies, a skiing accident and subsequentsurgery led a chronic pain condition (CRPS) in 2013, which did not respond well to traditionalWestern medical treatments. Serendipitously, she found relief and recovery in yoga and othersomatic healing practices, and also found her path, bringing together her experiences in education,mindfulness, and healing.In 2016, she returned to UCSC and received a second Master’s, in Education, focusing on the socialemotional needs of bilingual students and students who have experienced trauma in CaliforniaContinuation High Schools. She also participated in a 200 hour teacher training with ValerieMoselle, in Santa Cruz, California in 2016. Her work continues to be informed by her personaljourney with trauma, pain, and healing, as well as her experience as a parent, and years of teachingin classrooms and alternative settings at every level from preschool to graduate school, as well asher university-based research around the social-emotional learning needs of bilingual students,continuation high school students, and students who have experienced trauma. Currently, sheoffers classes, coaching and consulting for groups, individuals, families, and organizations aroundmindfulness, somatic, and multimodal approaches to teaching, learning, and healing, always withan emphasis on equity, diversity and inclusion.
