Derek graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Drafting and Design from Appalachian State University, before moving westward to Utah & Colorado to pursue a career in the resort and hospitality industry. In 2008 he attended the Utah College of Massage Therapy in Denver Colorado, to work towards a new career in the healing arts & bodywork. His studies included Swedish, deep tissue, sports and Injury massage. He also studied reflexology, acupressure, Shiatsu and cranial sacral modalities. After a few years at the Spa at Valdoro Mountain Lodge in Breckenridge Colorado, he discovered the Gold County foothills of California, where he has worked and called home since 2010.
