This class is for teens and adults 7+ months of age. Your dog doesn’t live in a classroom. So we don’t train in one. The teenage phase is when your sweet, mostly-manageable dog starts ignoring you, dragging you across the street every time they see a squirrel, and going absolutely bonkers when guests come over. Or maybe you have a rescue with a mysterious past who seems to be playing by their own rules. Either way, you’re in the right place. This is exactly what our group classes are built for. Behaviors we work on in class: Basic manners: sit, down, stay, drop it, leave it Biting and mouthing Jumping on people Pulling on leash Leash reactivity toward dogs or people Coming when called Attention span/focus in distracting environments Settling into a down General chaos energy Urban Dog classes focus on maintaining calm and attention in public, getting your dog to follow basic commands without bribes, and prepping for the AKC Canine Good Citizen Test. The actual AKC Canine Good Citizen exam will be offered quarterly and will be available to book like a regular class. What should I bring to my first class? Your dog, for starters! You should also bring: a standard 6-foot leash, at least two different types of high-value treats (mixed up like trail mix), a treat pouch or pocket you can access quickly, and comfortable shoes. If you are interested in a comfortable front-clipping harness for dog, there will be some options available at class to try out before you buy one. If it’s your very first time joining us, plan to arrive 15 minutes early for a new student meet-and-greet! We’ll get you oriented before the rest of the class arrives so you know what to expect. Who can attend class? Your whole family is invited to participate in your dog's education. If you have small children, please make sure you have adequate coverage to be able to focus on your pooch and your kids. What if my dog is reactive? Can they still participate in group classes? Maybe, but let’s talk first. Dogs with significant reactivity or any history of aggression need at least one private session before they join group class. We want to make sure the environment is right for your dog and keep everyone in class safe. Where exactly is this class meeting? Your dog doesn't live in a classroom, so we don't train in one! Each class will meet in a new public location in or around the Del Mar area. Details of class location, where to park, how to find the class meet-up spot, etc...are available AFTER you book the class. You will be sent confirmation and reminder emails which will have “Special Instructions” on class location. Please follow them closely as each class meets somewhere different on purpose! At Spot On, the distractions ARE part of the curriculum! Still have Questions? No problem! Text or call your instructor Andrea at 619-502-0082
