Getting started with IASIS Microcurrent Neurofeedback (MCN) is a unique experience. Unlike traditional neurofeedback, which requires active participation, MCN is passive and often described as relaxing. Here is what you can expect during your initial intake and your very first treatment session. 1. The Initial Intake: Understanding Your Goals Before any sensors are applied, your practitioner will conduct a thorough intake, reviewing the intake questionnaire you completed online and determining your goals for treatment. Clinical History: You’ll discuss your symptoms (such as anxiety, brain fog, sleep issues, or migraines) and any past head injuries or traumas. The “Sensitivity” Profile: Your practitioner will ask questions to determine how sensitive your nervous system is. This helps them tailor the “intensity” of the microcurrent to your specific needs. Tracking Progress:  Your clinician will help you download the IASIS app on your phone.  You will be prompted 24 hours after each session to complete the 24 hour feedback report.  This feedback helps your clinician customize your treatment to maximize your results.  2. Preparing for Your First Session To get the most out of your treatment and ensure a smooth experience, please follow these two essential guidelines: Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate: Drink plenty of fluids (ideally water) before and after your appointment. The brain is roughly 75% water, and being well-hydrated improves the conductivity of the signals and helps your brain process the “reboot” more effectively. Clean Skin is Key: Please do not wear makeup (like foundation or concealer) or heavy skin lotions. The sensors need to make direct contact with your skin—usually on the forehead and behind the ears. Oils and pigments in makeup can create a barrier that interferes with the signal. 3. The First Treatment: What Happens? The actual MCN session is brief, usually lasting only 15 to 25 minutes. Sensor Placement: The practitioner will use a small amount of conductive paste to place lightweight sensors on specific points on your head and neck. The Technology: While you sit comfortably in a chair, the MCN system reads your brainwaves. It then sends a tiny, imperceptible microcurrent back to the brain. This signal is less than 1/100th of the power of a AA battery—you won't feel any “shocks” or pain. The Goal: This brief signal encourages the brain to “shift” out of stuck patterns (like a frozen sympathetic nervous system) and return to a more flexible, regulated state. 4. Aftercare and Observations After the session, most people feel very relaxed or “lighter.” Some may feel a brief period of fatigue as the nervous system begins to reset. *You will be sent an email from IASIS 24 hours after your session which prompts you to go to your IASIS app and complete the 24 hour observation report.  Pro Tip:Keep a small notebook or a note on your phone over the next 24–48 hours. Notice if you sleep better, feel less reactive to stress, or have a bit more mental clarity. These “micro-shifts” are exactly what your practitioner will want to hear about at your next visit.
