About the Appointment

Kambo, also known as “sapo” or “frog medicine,” is a traditional healing ritual originating from the indigenous tribes of the Amazon rainforest, particularly the Matsés people of Brazil and Peru. It involves the application of a secretion from the skin of the giant leaf frog (Phyllomedusa bicolor) onto small burns or open wounds on the person receiving the treatment.  The frog secretion, which contains various peptides, neuro-peptides and bioactive compounds, is believed to have medicinal properties and is used in the traditional context for physical, emotional, and spiritual healing. The main active component of kambo is a peptide called phyllomedusin, which acts as a powerful stimulant on the body.  During a kambo ceremony, our trained practitioners administer the kambo secretion using a small healing incense stick to create superficial burns on the skin, only penetrating the first two layers of the skin. Approximately 1 Liter of distilled water is consumed before the medicine is applied. The frog secretion is then put on the burns, allowing the bioactive compounds to enter the body. Kambo can have various health benefits, such as detoxification, immune system enhancement, improved digestion, pain relief, increased bodily strength and fortification, psycho-spiritual awakening or shifts in perspective, mental clarity and increased energy. Kambo is a wonderful modality for those struggling with addiction issues, anxiety and depression. When you have come to a fork in the road and are seeking to gain more clarity, kambo can create big shifts for you in navigating your path and choices.  Kambo is also known as a fire medicine and a heart opener. The experience activates a heat reaction within the body. Because of the influx of peptides entering into the body, some people may feel nauseous and feel movement in the gut. This is due to all of the gastro-intestinal peptides in kambo, particularly phyllomedusin and phyllokinin. A purge may or may not happen when this onsets. Some kambo users seek a purge by taking small sips of distilled water when under the medicine. After your session, dragons blood is applied to the burns, or gates, and the healing process of the burns begin. Dragons blood is a tree sap from the Dracaena Cinnabari tree that has anti-microbial and anti-bacterial properties and stays on the burns until they heal, promoting little to no scarring on the body.  If you are considering kambo or any other alternative medicine practice, it's advisable to consult with our Kambo professionals who have been extensively trained with Tribal Detox. We encourage you to seek reliable sources of information to make an informed decision about Kambo Peptide Therapy.
