Jovia Wellness

Dr. Heather Rassel founded JOVIA Wellness with former co-owner, Cathy Colburn. She facilitates JOVIA and see’s patients there through her practice called Pure Chiropractic. Dr. Rassel chose chiropractic as her profession and started her education in 1994. Chiropractic was more of a “way of life” in Dr. Rassel's family (with the philosophy that health and wellness come from the inside-out and honoring the in-born intelligence of the body) since her parents, Drs. Ed and Linda Rassel, of East Lansing and Okemos, were both chiropractors. The chiropractic lifestyle, and therefore profession, spread through Dr. Rassel’s extended family. Two of her sisters, her aunt, several uncles, cousins, and her niece are all chiropractors as well. Counting all the extended family members (through marriage too) there are approximately 30 chiropractors in Dr. Rassel’s family!Dr. Rassel grew up in Haslett, MI and was an extremely active child who loved to be a part of many different groups, including various sports teams and choirs. Her favorites were soccer, dance and vocal music. Dr. Rassel attended Michigan State University for her undergraduate. Then she moved to Marietta, GA to complete her Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Life University, and graduated in 2000. That year Dr. Rassel also starting her family and gave birth to her first child and now has 2 boys and 2 girls. In 2004 Dr. Rassel moved back to Michigan and helped open and operate Van Skyhock Family Chiropractic in Traverse City, and then a second location in Mesick, MI in 2007 (currently with different owners). At the end of 2011, she focused her energy on starting a very different type of practice, “Pure Chiropractic ~ A Membership Practice” in the Grand Traverse Mall. This practice exemplifies her personal mission; “to provide convenient, affordable, consistant chiropractic care to all who want it”. By offering a monthly membership option, for weekly maintainance adjustments, this is achieved.March 2019 Dr. Rassel decided to move her practice, Pure Chiropractic, into JOVIA Wellness, which has a beautiful, calming atmoshphere located on the Boardman Lake. This type of chiropractic care integrates well with the mind ~ body ~ spirit approach that JOVIA offers. Dr. Rassel has an active lifestyle outside of her practice with her loved ones and friends. She enjoys activities and festivals in Traverse City, dancing, yoga, golf, hiking, scuba diving, kayaking, and especially traveling and exploring other areas of the world.
