About the Class

In the class, students follow the set sequences of Ashtanga Yoga, synchronising movement with breath, focus, and alignment. Working at your own pace under the guidance of a teacher creates a deep focus, meditative and inner approach to practice. The teacher offers both verbal and physical (optional) assistance and guides you to develop your practice, gradually learning and progressing through the series. You can learn ashtanga yoga as a complete beginner in the Mysore class, and, in fact, this is a very good way to learn it. This class is suitable for all levels with guidance available for beginners, primary and intermediate series practitioners.    Tamara teaches in a traditional way, learning breathing, vinyasa count, and poses step by step. Shes teaches Ashtanga as a somatic practice, which means guiding you to come to know your own body and mind from a first-person experiential perspective. The poses give a powerful framework through which to do this work. Initially, building strength, stamina, and exploring range of motion, the practice gradually leads one to a state of lightness and stability in body and mind. Progress is inner and you are encouraged to build a solid foundation from which progression is natural and intuitive. This is very individual and Tamara encourages precision, grace, and gentleness as you progress. There is a reflective yet open approach to asana progression, where you are free to try as well as be guided by the teacher.    Please note that this class is not led by the teacher, it is an assisted self-practice. You can attend anytime between the start and finish times of the class.
