CAMYOGA
Jesse’s journey with hatha yoga began at the age of 19 when she attended her first vinyasa class. She witnessed this practical power of yoga at an opportune time as she was studying mahayana buddhism, daoism and confucianism at university. Intending to find teachers of yogic theory, history as well as practicum, she completed a 200-hour teacher training with Dr Yogananth Andiappan, son of Guruji Dr Asana Andiappan, founder of the Andiappan yoga lineage from Chennai India. The foundational training gave her the basis to understand how hatha yoga can add to her spiritual cultivation. This led her to the ashtanga vinyasa tradition, a fiery, stabilising and focused discipline that transformed her understanding of her physical limits. She regards it as her tapas towards balance as she is naturally closer to vata and kapha. Now she practices the primary series every day alongside zen meditation and taichi from the tianzhen lineage. Her understanding of yoga is inspired by her teachers Rajadurai Paneerselvam, Clayton Horton, Joey Miles, Dorothy Loh and Jolene Ho, who introduced her to the writings of Master Nan Huai-chin, a widely influential Buddhist scholar in and beyond Chinese communities.
