Hello, my name is Nicola Endicott and I have been practising Shiatsu for thirty five years. I am a registered and fellow member of the Shiatsu Society. (www.shiatsu .org) I work in general practice, but I have trained in maternity and postnatal care since 2002 and have worked with both cancer and chronic conditions. (www.nicola-endicott.co.uk) What is Shiatsu? Shiatsu is a Japanese form of bodywork, which works on the same theoretical basis as acupunture. As well as acupresssure, it incoporates body stretches, rotation and loosening of joints and stiller holding work. This brings about balance in the body’s energetic, emotional and physical systems. Shiatsu is profoundly relaxing as well as energizing, which supports the body’s innate healing ability. It also helps the receiver develop greater selfawareness, which in turn brings greater awareness of needs, leading to a good self-care plan. What to expect during a Shiatsu session: Sessions are 75 minutes long which includes a minimum of 50 minutes hands on work and time to discuss health issues, before and after the session. Shiatsu is received fully clothed on a comfortable Japanese futon on floor level. It is advisable to wear clothes you are comfortable in and that you can move in. Who can benefit from Shiatsu? Shiatsu can be beneficial for all ages and can be received to simply de-stress and re-balance. It can also support some of the following conditions: muscular-skeletal conditions, such as backache, stiff neck/shoulders, frozen shoulder, sciatica, stiff joints, sports injuries; digestive conditions: irritable bowel syndrome, colitis, indigestion; emotional conditions: anxiety, nervousness, grief, stress, shock, burnout chronic conditions: high blood pressure, arthritis, asthma, insomnia, low energy. female conditions: menstrual pain, PMT, pregnancy related symptoms, post-natal recovery.
