About the Class

WARM HEAT - The Ashtanga Primary Series, also known as Yoga Chikitsa or “yoga therapy,” is indeed a powerful practice designed to cleanse and purify both body and mind. The synchronized movement with breath, or vinyasa, is central to the practice, and it provides a strong foundation through the progressive sequence of poses. In this traditional practice, the session begins with Suryanamaskar A and Suryanamaskar B, the Sun Salutations, which serve to warm up the body and set the rhythm of the breath. Following this, practitioners move through standing, some seated, and finishing postures, each held for five rounds of ujjayi breath. The steadiness of the breath helps cultivate focus, stability, and calmness while allowing for deep work in the muscles, joints, and internal organs. This class is accessible to practitioners of all levels and offers modifications.  We encourage the use of props like blocks so that everyone can participate safely and comfortably, regardless of their flexibility or experience.  This inclusive approach allows beginners to feel supported while still providing room for more advanced practitioners to deepen their practice.
