I’ve been a GKS regular for years, as the teachers and classes are hands down the best in the region. I adore the traditional mat and vinyasa classes, and when I started incorporating Aerial yoga into my practice in 2015, it helped me bring my mat practice to another level! Jessica was the first to bring Aerial yoga into the Capital District, and if you haven’t taken one of her classes, you absolutely must!
Mara Afzali has always had a passion for movement—from dancing
on stage to the Bangles “Manic Monday” as a little girl, to
practicing yoga for over the past two decades, to enjoying the
beauty and solace of long runs in the hilltowns outside of Albany
where she lives with her husband and four kids. Mara discovered
aerial silks in 2005 and fell in love with the art, shifting her
passions forever skyward. She has trained at the Philadelphia
School of Circus Arts and New England Center for Circus Arts, and
co-founded the local aerial performance group, Ribbon in the Sky.
She has performed locally at numerous venues, and also taught silks
as part of our “silks and swings” summer camp in 2012. A local
attorney by day, Mara finds that flipping upside down is the best
way to find balance and fun in her busy schedule. She also strongly
believes that circus is for everybody and is excited to offer the
aerial silks classes in Good Karma’s new space!
